If you want to visit Croatia, don’t visit the seaside only, you also have to travel to capital because there are a lot of things to do for readers and writers. In the following paragraphs there are introduced seven places, which you shouldn’t miss if you are a biblophile:

:: Antikvarijat Zlatarevo zlato

The second-hand bookshop houses a lot of English and German books, and French books as well. If you are searching for books from the first and second worldwar, you will find them. It’s also a good place to look for German complete editions.

Antikvarijat Zlatarevo zlato // Skalinska ul. 2a // 10000 Zagreb // Mo-Fri 9:00 – 21:00, Sat 9:00 – 15:00

:: Školska knijga

If you want to find some reading material you’ll find it at this departement store chain. It’s a paradis for young readers, because they house a lot of Fantasy and Science Fiction editions in English. In addition, there are also some novels in Englisch to buy there. If you want to have some chill in hot summers, take a rest there, it is well air-conditioned.

Školska knija // Masarykova 28 // 10000 Zagreb // Mo-Fri: 8:00 – 20:00, Sat 8:00 – 15:00

:: booksa

Oh, booksa muss man einfach lieben!

Oh, you are going to love booksa! It’s a bit outside the centre, but it’s the ideal place for writers. booksa is a society, which wants to make their business in literature and giving writers a place to be. You can spend your whole day there, ordering some coffee and bringing your own food: then just start writing. The park vis-á-vis is a special source of inspiration.

Wer teure Bücher sehen will, ist hier willkommen.

In fine – there are no editions in German and hardly in English. But: if you are searching for books in dramatic theory, you’ll find them. There are also some books, which are lot of bucks worth. If you want to see some precious books, you are welcome.

:: Hoću kniju I

In the centre of Zagreb are two of these bookshops and both should be introduced. This one is the smaller one, but it’s really worth seeing. It’s a tiny paradis for kids – there is a locker under the stair (really Harry Potter like) and they can read some nice books in there. In this shop there are new published novels and books for children.

Hoću knjigu // Banjavčićeva ulica 22 // 10000 Zagreb // Mo-Fri 8:00 – 21:00, Sat 8:00 – 17:00

:: Hoću kniju II

This bookshop is a megastore and it is about ten times bigger than the smaller one. Here are schoolthings and games housed as much as thousands of books and a own section for foreign-languaged literature. But this shop has to be discovered: there is a tardis (Dr Who!!!) and a reading room (Harry Potter!!!). There is a own partitionment for fandom. And the entrance!

:: Vucović & Runjic

Oh, that bookshop is fantastically awesome! The owners (they are two of it) aren’t only leading this breathtaking shop, they are also a small indie-publishing house with some new books a year. At this place there is a nice selection of dramatic theory and some nice, hand-bound editions in small number of items.
